I am starting to consider going to Santa Fe for Alceste, but I am worried about the soprano. Will she show up? Will she learn the long and arduous role? I have been listening to a live performance with Verrett and I like the opera – very majestic and stirring.

Not wanting to imitate the Vicar, but Dame Janet’s live ROH recording, despite the odd transposition, is hors concours.
