the weed of crime bears bitter fruit

Renee Fleming, 50, allegedly snatched a MasterCard from the victim’s pocketbook in the Green Café on West 57th Street near Sixth Avenue at 2 p.m. on April 15.” [via NY Post; thanks to williams!]

UPDATE: According to an email from Mary Lou Falcone (RF’s publicist), it’s a different, non-operatic Renee Fleming the Post was talking about. Ah, well.

I find it most interesting that her publicist jumped right in IMMEDIATELY and let La Cieca know that it was not RF the opera singer who did this, but some other Renee Fleming.

They must watch this site CONSTANTLY!

I’d love to see one Renee hugging and kissing the other Renee at the door of her dressing room backstage at the Met.

#52 jatm – I am well acquainted with Mary Lou Falcone and have great respect for her as a professional. I believe she was responding to the Post (if indeed the item really appeared there – do we know?), more than to PTB – it is, shall we say, more widely read? :)
MLF is an awfully nice lady, a former opera singer herself, had a short career in roles such as Wowkle and Kate Pinkerton. She does exactly what she is paid to do, keeps a sharp eye out for her client’s interests. All PR people should be so good.

The People’s Diva and her publicist need to be more forthcoming with the American people. It’s not entirely clear what has taken place. If it’s the same name and same age, it must be the same person. What are the odds?

Plus we’re in a recession and Ms. Fleming’s a single mother. Her recording company Decca just went out of business. Armida promises to be another flop with the critics just like Sonnambula was. She might have been cash-strapped that day. I for one need more proof. Gelb’s silence’s deafening. I just wrote him a scathing letter about this whole horrendous situation.

The MET can’t continue to have a kleptomaniac and shoplifter on their employ. I’m sorry it has come to this but I saw it coming when she cracked the D at the end of Thais last season. I’m a huge fan but I don’t know anything anymore. Say it ain’t so my Beautiful Voice.

mrmyster: Mary Lou Falcone may or may not be nice. I don’t know her. Nor did I imply she was doing either more or less than her job required.

However, it does seem likely that RF’s entire “team” keep an annoyed and constant vigil on Parterre Box and remarks (good or bad) about Renee Fleming.

Or perhaps they don’t have to, if every little bitch who has their nose up Renee Fleming’s twat runs to them with any comment made about her on Parterre Box (particularly the bad ones).

  • Nerva Nelli says:

How much are pawnbrokers giving for Rolexes these days?

  • Alto says:

    Dear 56,

While I am not a “little bitch who has their nose up Renee Fleming’s twat” by any means, I happen to know how Ms. Falcone heard about it. It was from someone whom I alerted to our dear Doyenne’s link.

Things are sometimes less sensational, more pedestrian, than our fevered imaginations dictate.

  • Alto says:

P.S. There is no chance that the publicist in question would “troll Parterre Box” unless the task had a hefty monthly retainer attached.

  • La Cieca says:

La Cieca feels she should make a clean (ahem) breast of the situation. Your doyenne sent an email to Ms. Falcone saying that of course the “Renee Fleming” who swiped the Mastercard is not her client the opera singer, but “just for the record” would she confirm that fact? Ms. Falcone responded tersely, “the person mentioned in the NY Post IS NOT Renee Fleming the opera soprano.”
