the art of the doyenne

La Cieca continues her salute to the diamond birthday of Renata Scotto with a new episode of Unnatural Acts of Opera. The podcast features the first act of La sonnambula as performed at the Teatro la Fenice on May 26, 1961.
Renata Scotto (Amina), Alfredo Kraus (Elivino), Ivo Vinco (Rodolfo), Rosa Laghezza (Lisa), Marisa Zotti (Teresa). Teatro La Fenice, Venezia, Nello Santi, conductor.
Re: Scotto’s ZAIRA. It’s been some years since I played it — and it will be a few years before I do so again. My memory is that she was spending a great deal of energy and lavishing loving care on an empty shell from which the lobster was long gone.
is it me or does the pic above remind you of brad pitt (particularly the eyes)?
Madame La Cieca,
Thank you, once again, for posting the Scotto/Kraus Sonnambula.
It has given me so much enjoyment; I only hope it will bring back some idea of how this music is to be regarded and brought out in performance.
Merci bien, Madame, pour votre lecon.
