La Cieca reminds her cher public that the always inventive Gotham Chamber Opera returns this week with a rare production of Haydn’s L’isola disabitata. Mark Morris directs the non-dancing proceedings, with Neal Goren conducting the “typical early classical orchestra.” Castaways include Takesha Meshé Kizart, Valerie Ogbonnaya, Vale Rideout and budding barihunk Tom Corbeil.

According to Gotham’s website, “L’isola disabitata … was Haydn’s favorite of his own operas,” so you’ll have chance to see if you and Haydn share the same tastes. In music, La Cieca means.

Again, I’d like to inquire, what is the operation of this Facebook thing and what are the advantages/disadvantages of participating/

  • Drammy says:

Wotan, Facebook is a stalking tool used by the young’uns these days. Social networking is an optional secondary function.

Join to “stay connected” and watch this connectedness escalate to changing your status every five minutes, poring anxiously over friends’ relationship statuses, and spending the rest of your adult life attached to your laptop.

Though this sounds very ambitious at the moment, the group could be used for opera discussion, networking, stalking fellow parterrians, that sort of thing.

Facebook is good place for hackers and identify thieves to learn information about you and wreak mischef. After two Facebook wipeouts — including a hard disk crash — I cancelled by Facebook account last fall. Just too risky.

Ah, good. Thank you. Not much to it other than that, is there?

Or you could use it to actually make friends, like i have… it allows you to send pee balloons and heart shaped pillows and chocolates to your acquaintances, who can become actual friends… You can comment on other peoples pictures and generally have a good ole time… I have over 20 games of Wordscraperâ„¢ going (Scrabble), and there is every computer game available, too… NOT TO MENTION (and i cant believe I am) there are tons of OPERA SINGERS… GOOD ONES… on Facebook, and Ive found that with a polite invite, many of them are more that happy to take you into their circle of friends… Besides our most esteemed Doyenne, i have over 25 opera celebrities in mine!

A pee balloon! Sort of hard to resist. Makes me go all Doris-Day-ish inside.

    cocky and thacky,

actually, i was right, bitter in french is AMER. thus it is “bitter jaquino” in french. or our country would be “bitter ica” s’il vous plait… whatever. i ramble.

i always replied to a friend who invited me to join facebook that facebook was for teenagers and pedophiles. but apparently, that’s myspace, not facebook.

  • Drammy says:

They were saying the name is aRmerjacquino, not amer.

Oh come on, Facebook is for yuppies and white-bread suburbans. Myspace is for pedophiles et al.
