Add Johnny Depp and you’ve got triplets.

  • J. G. Pastorkyna says:

I remember when there was a Helmut Berger, AND a Helmut Berger Tuna. I always thought it was an ideal setup for a good zinger, but I couldn’t think of one.

  • Lydia Language says:

Forgive me for phrasing it this way, but Alice Coote could act the PANTS off Helmut Berger – I’ve seen her Octavian! And she could sing the pants off Johnny Depp, but I’d rather have that task myself… (I suspect I’d be more into it than grave Alice.)

I’ve still not quite gotten over Mr. Berger (not Tuna) in “The Damned” doing god knows what with Ingrid Thulin, playing his very twisted Nazi mother. Alice definitely has Ms. Berger’s facial features in the photo above but not the proper amount of 60′s/70′s gay boy anorexia that really defined the classic Mr./Ms. Berger. (Just saw “Milk” last night and have been thrown into a time wormhole.)

I think I have a crush on Alice Coote now.

  • tannengrin says:

Is she auditioning for the role of Bavaria’s Ludwig in Sissy – the Opera?

  • Buster says:

For the televised ROH Hänsel and Gretel Alice Coote was replaced by Angelika Kirchschlager who looked just like little Arthur Rimbaud – very cute!

  • WeillFan says:

Actually, I think the ROH “Hänsel und Gretel” had two casts. The Christmas Day BBC2 broadcast featured the more Germanic of the two.

  • Thackeray Gnomey says:

Coote has a much better voice than Kirchschlager and is an artist of much more substance.

I can’t see why there is so much fuss about K. She’s a three-quarters soprano without much of a top and without much of a chest register — and I can never remember what she sounds like!

Apart from that, she’s the new Christa Ludwig.

  • High C's @ 4:20 says:

    Im a Coote fan too… (?) (!)

Saw her in Chicago as Hansel, missed her due to illness in their Fledermaus last year… Elizabeth DeShong wasnt much of a replacement…
