Gee, Big Jake, thanks for the keen insight, but very few of us are or ever wanted to be singers.

Danielle de Niese – I want to like her. I can’t sing and don’t know much about the technicalities of voice production, but I can recognise poor intonation. Hope she learns to correct it soon.

  • Greg (not a de Niese lover) says:

I saw/heard Ms. de Niese last year in Chicago in Mr. Handel’s little Ceasar opera. Fantastic production. There are few other sopranos that would have been willing to do what Danielle was asked to do (dance, covort half naked on stage) and even fewer who could pull off the half naked on stage. That said, I think she’s a Broadway babe, not an opera star. Her singing was above average for a broadway singer, below average for an opera singer. She was the low point of the evening, music-wise, for me.

What what a set of t*ts! Even a big ol’ queen like mee appreciates great tata’s when he sees them!

What kind of a singer did Jake want to be, then?

  • Evelynne Learjette says:

Out of that 2005 Cardiff pack, the finest by current form is Amanda Echalaz – a really impressive big lyric/verismo voice – though not hugely individual. Her Jenufa and Tatyana were most promising, ditto Fiora in L’amore di Tre Re. She takes on Tosca this summer…

I think jake is gone… he probably had an operatic engagement or master class to teach… lighten up… were bitchy queens… did he have no idea of what to expect?

  • Thackeray Gnomey says:

Evelynne (great name), you are right. In a different league from Wendy Dawn Thomson (standard lyric mezzo) who DID make it to the final.

  • Thackeray Gnomey says:

But most visitors to this site won’t be interested, because she hasn’t sung in NYC ;-)

While I missed the opera, I feel blessed to add a new word to my vocabulary: “puppyliciousness”.

    Well done, la Cieca!

Re. JDF – I’d write it as:
    …………C………
Puppyli iousness to include the high “C”.
