I shrieked like a schoolgirl when I heard the first notes and realized what I was watching. Thanks for sharing, La Cieca. She sounds good.
PS I thought you would have posted something by now about Netrebko’s apparent win in Sonnambula in Vienna. Cf. Midgette’s review in the Times.
I very much enjoyed this performance seen 11/3, DVoight at the Chicago Lyric (for those who may not immediately grasp who ’tis.)
The one criticism I have of Chicago’s house (my first visit)is that the orchestra, as can be heard here, is a bit too prominent for the accoustics – it’s a huge, full pit thrust way front of the proscenium and not very deep.
In the front balcony I had trouble hearing the singers in the Strauss. Funnily enough, the following night’s Trovatore had a similar big blast of an orchestra yet Sondra Radvanovsky blazed right over it… to not always appealing effect, I’m afraid, but what a power house, volume-wise.
Debbie MUST record this… AMAZING!!!
I was there for the last one on Tuesday. OH MY GOD. From Voigt to Forst to Begley to Held, it was one of the best SUNG Salomes you could hope for, and the production is stunning, too. Debbie doesn’t overdo the teenager thing; there are so many more layers. Plus, she’s found a high pianissimo and the chest is back (although she cheated on the lowest note). I can only imagine that she’ll grow and grow into the role.
I was also there on Tuesday and it was a thrilling performance–papagenodz is right all around. Voigt and Held were particularly splendid. Fascinating production, Voigt in GREAT voice and really throws herself into the role!
OMG, she’s still got it–DEBBIE is fab.
Help! I can’t see the clip. The “play” button on the bottom has been cut off and clicking on the screen itself isn’t helping.

am i missing something? i think its competent but not outstanding … the soundquality is a bit bright and makes it all sound very metallic. also it does cut off after 2.20mins although it seems there still seems to be some time left to go … how strange.
and by the way, debbie has recorded the final scene of salome already – but her vocie does not take kindly to recordings i find, as the top notes always sound very hard and metallic … which they don’t do live.
I like Voigt and I think she is in very good voice for this clip and sounds quite good overall. However, I do feel that she’s overrated on this website. Everything she does is supposed to be gold and frankly, it’s not! This clip is not outstanding in my mind. Mind you, should could have been oustanding in the whole scene but based on this clip, I have to side with hab mir’s gelobt.
Have you listened to the interview with DV on San Francisco Opera’s website?
Worth spending the time.
Thank you for SFO for adding it to their website.
