Despite not being very happy with the state of the world (and the union) and not looking forward to the New Year, this past December I took in many festive holiday offerings including a pair of oratorios.
The music was at every point dramatically compelling, without seeming cheap or manipulative.
Wednesday brought Christopher Alden’s grimly dark and violent take on Handel’s Aci, Galatea e Polifemo at National Sawdust.
St. Paul’s Chapel is the perfect site for Saul, Handel’s finest dramatic oratorio.
