Baritone Matthias Goerne, the industry’s favorite wanderer along Lieder’s loveliest lanes, is revisiting Schubert’s masterpiece Die schöne Müllerin. When he last brought it to Carnegie Hall, he earned the unambiguous blessing of The New York Times, who called his reading “exemplary … exquisitely rendered.” (Which frankly makes one think of beef tallow, but that’s music critics for ya.)
Now we know some of y’all ~don’t like to get involved with drama~ but babes, this is a mini-drama. And surely you can sit still for an hour and bask in a beloved song cycle, expertly supported by the stylings of hot-property pianist Daniil Trifonov.
