Two favorite mezzo performances from Jennifer Larmore

Beth Taylor sings with her whole heart and soul and it is evident in the aria “Priva son d’ogni conforto” from Handel’s Giulio Cesare.

It is clear that she loves the aria, and the aria loves her. Hearing her sing this is an experience in itself, so beautiful, poignant and satisfying. I’m only sorry that we didn’t have the chance to sing together onstage. I have had the joy of teaching her and being her friend, though, which, to me, is even better!

There is also a YouTube performance that I did as Isabella in L’taliana in Algeri where I sang “Pensa alla patria.” I am wearing a black wig and singing to Bruce Ford. The reason I picked this clip is that I am hyper-critical as a rule of my singing, and I even like this one! I remember that the production itself was a bit tacky but in the end fun! Bruce Ford and I decided to stage a lot of the dance sequences and movements ourselves and ended up having the time of our lives! I am always happy when I see this clip as it brings back such joyful memories!
