Marilyn Zschau, Eva Randova, and Deborah Voigt. As lyrical as Ms. Zschau could be in Verdi and Offenbach, and I saw her as a terrific Giulietta in Tales of Hoffmann at the LOC, this Strauss is demented in the best way possible. She is just astounding, and a truly lovely woman. I got to meet her during the Hoffmann and then the following year, when she came for Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, she invited me backstage (the quite labyrinthine backstage) to escort her out to the street to wait for her cab.
