She is simply my favorite singer of all time. After giving up her career at her peak at the age of 40, she was persuaded to make some records at the age of 57. When she refused to come to New York the engineers brought their equipment to her Baltimore living room.

This is a voice taken out of mothballs. But the grand phrasing, a myriad of colors, the incomparably rich chocolatey sound, the miraculous breath control are all still there.

I find this ravishingly beautiful.
