Lyric Opera of Chicago
With Sondra Radvanovsky as a newly announced “Artistic Advisor,” Lyric Opera of Chicago plans a seven-opera season in addition to several concerts and a run of Guys & Dolls.
In her new capacity, Radvanovsky will make a mainstage appearance each season — including a concert with tenor SeokJong Baek in April — and work closely with The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center through masterclasses, mentorship, and career guidance.
The fall will see performances of Don Giovanni with Christian Van Horn in the title role as well as Tommaso Barea, Lawrence Brownlee, Mané Galoyan, and Nina Solodovnikova as Leporello, Don Ottavio, Donna Anna, and Donna Elvira, respectively. Issachah Savage is Omar in Rhiannon Giddens & Michael Abels’s Omar, opening towards the end of Don Giovanni’s run. Finally, in November, Misha Kiria, Ying Fang, and Alberto Robert lead a production of Don Pasquale in Mariame Clément‘s production from Glyndebourne.
Opera returns in February with a three-performance run of Massenet’s Hérodiade in concert. Clémentine Margaine sings the title role, which she has previously recorded with Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Music Director Enrique Mazzola, alongside Federica Lombardi, Piero Pretti, and Igor Golovatenko. Mazzola also conducts performances of Haydn’s The Creation in January with Erin Morley, David Portillo, and Michael Sumuel.
Later in the spring, Leah Hawkins sings Ariadne opposite the Bacchus of Russell Thomas and the Zerbinetta and Composer of Erin Morley and Samantha Hankey in a revival of Ariadne auf Naxos. A revival of La traviata features Yaritza Véliz, Liparit Avetisyan, and Amartuvshin Enkhbat, all in their Lyric Opera debuts, and Gabriella Reyes is the lead in a production of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah opposite Ryan Speedo Green and Matthew Cairns. Patricia Racette‘s directing that one, Lyric’s final opera of the season, in April. And in June, Francesca “A bushel and a beck” Zambello directs Guys & Dolls.
Other concerts include an evening with the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus called Wagner: Myth and Music as well as screenings of the movies Encanto and Amadeus featuring live orchestral accompaniment.
