Life imitates art

With Gustavo Dudamel in the spotlight at Parterre Box this week, Grand Tier Grab Bag foreshadows one of the New York Philharmonic’s upcoming operatic engagements.

Next season, the New York Philharmonic leaps into the Dudamel era with a recently announced initiative to bring operas-in-concert to Carnegie Hall over the next five years. At the center of its starry performances of Tosca will be Marina Rebeka making a title role debut alongside Jonas Kaufmann in a rare New York appearance and Ludovic Tézier who was featured alongside Rebeka here just last month.

Parterre Box features a predictable excerpt of Rebeka in this part recorded at a concert — and far away from the microphones of Rebeka’s Prima Classic record label — in Erl last year.
