Next season I’m excited for Corinne Winters in Il trittico

Corinne Winters will take on a trio of roles in Puccini’s Trittico in Houston.

It’s a seemingly impossible combination of role types and vocal demands, from sly soubrette to tragic spinto with nearly everything in between, and it’s arguable that there’s no reason any one singer should sing them all in an evening, but Winters is an intelligent artist and I’m eager to see what she makes of it. Jamie Barton is going for the Stephanie Blythe triple crown of Frugola/Zia Principessa/Zita, Ryan McKinny is Michele and Schicchi, and Arturo Chacón-Cruz is Luigi and Rino: a very exciting cast all around.
