Next season I’m excited for Les pêcheurs de perles

This season, I’m looking forward to Washington Concert Opera’s (WCO) production of Georges Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles on 14 March 2026.

WCO stands out among US opera companies for its presentations of less commonly performed operas from the repertory with top-tier talent. I’ve experienced many operas for the first time in live performance (as opposed to recordings) thanks to WCO and the company has become an essential part of my opera-going diet. In WCO’s Pêcheurs next March, soprano Emily Pogorelc will sing Leïla, baritone Will Liverman will sing Zurga, and tenor Duke Kim will sing Nadir. I’m particularly looking forward to hearing Liverman and Kim’s take on Bizet’s famous duet. Both are rising stars and someday I’ll be able to say that I saw them way back when at WCO…
