A favorite Wagner performance from Rowna Sutin

This is one of my favorite operas, and visually and story telling-wise, you can’t beat this production.

I had never heard of the soprano, Lisbeth Balslev before. What an outstanding singer she was. The men are top rate singers too. Many times you get a great performance, but one of the lead singers is weak. Not here. The interesting perspective with Senta being present so many times lends a new interpretation to the story. I have watched this many times, and each time I get a thrill, especially during the great Dutchman and Senta duet.
