The second opportunity will be at the Teatro Regio di Parma’s Festival Verdi in the fall where the opera will be presented in the 300-seat Teatro Verdi in Busseto, near the composer’s birthplace. Macbeth is a popular title for the Regio, which presented the 1865 standard Paris version en français last year.
The segment of the opera shared today from a 2024 performance in Vienna with Gerald Finley and Anastasia Bartoli — the Dagger Soliloquy through the end of Act I — remains unchanged across the opera’s iterations whereas the chestnut “La luce langue,” for example, only popped up in 1865. For more on the differences between the versions, you can consult your Julian Budden.
