Following her retirement from the operatic stage this spring, Dessay has changed her tack to Sondheim with performances as Madam Rose followed by her first Nellie Lovett in Barrie Kosky‘s production in Strasbourg. And she will return to Strasbourg next spring as Sally in Follies.

Hard to believe it’s been almost ten years since Dessay first started to preview her future musical theater orientation with her tasteful Pictures of America album.

She seems to be approaching her full musical roles with somewhat less restraint.
