EDIT: Our ever-alert Cher Public alerted us that the Tabarro clip posted earlier wasn’t Winters but instead Lianna Haroutounian.

Janacek: Jenufa, Excerpt Act 2 (Royal Opera House, 2025)

This clip, from 2022, documents Winters’s first pass at Giorgetta; she will return to this part (alongside Suor Angelica and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi) in Houston this fall. Her Luigi in today’s clip, the British tenor Adam Smith who headlines this summer’s revival of Louise at Aix-en-Provence, is also fast on the rise and will make debuts in both Paris and New York next season.

“Giorgetta doesn’t have to be a huge dramatic voice but it has to be a voice that can sit low,” Winters observed in her conversation with Kevin Ng published on the box last week. “Low notes are not a problem for me because I use a lot of chest voice and I use it high, but there are a couple of notes that sit at the chest-to-head voice transition for me. But if there are a few notes that aren’t as powerful as I would like them to be, I’m okay with that because the aria sits well for me.”
