A favorite Donizetti performance from Ivy Lin

Kind of self-explanatory, but Maria Callas‘s mad scene in Anna Bolena has truly ruined this music for me.

She is the only soprano who is able to do the upward ascending trills of “Coppia iniqua,” and also to inhabit the fiery nature of the real-life Anne Boleyn. 1957 was considered her last “good” year.
