Apparently the rights to stream Moby Dick were an issue. Last season featured several contemporary HDs, so I can only assume they sold poorly, thus they programmed less for the HD.

It's bizarre, because contemporary operas and Met premieres would be my first picks for HD. Lower risk, plus a better view. But I suppose broadcast rights are a big issue.
I'm not sure they are analogous. There is more than one way to be bad. This ,like much on broadway, is entertainment for tourists.
