On this day in 1958 Samuel Barber‘s Vanessa had its world premiere at the Metropolitan Opera.
On this day in 1942 conductor Sir Thomas Beecham made his Metropolitan Opera debut conducting a double bill of Phoebus and Pan (Bach’s Cantata Der Streit zwischen) and Rinsky-Korsakovs Coq d’Or.
