On this day in 1974 the Winter Garden Theatre was evacuated due to a bomb threat, postponing the first preview for the revival of Gypsy, starring Angela Lansbury.
The threat was inaccurate in both literal and metaphorical senses as the performance soon continued and the star went on to win both Tony and Drama Desk awards for her portrayal.
