Our Own Betsy cries, “Grab your spoon and dish: it’s Saturday chat time!”

F is for Florian, who sings Lohengroin from the Bayreuth Festival on LRT KLASIKA at 11:00. 2 F.K. (it’s pretty good)

U is for Uxorious, which Don Giovanni ain’t. From San Francisco at 1:00 on the WFMT American Opera Network. 3 F.K. due to a lacklustre cast.

N is for Netrebko, who isn’t in this production, but they do very well without her, thank you. 1:00 on CBC TWO. 2 F.K.

N is for Negligible, unless you are an inveterate aristocratophile. 1:00 on DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR. 3 F.K. for those who can stay awake.

Y is for Yay, and this performance of LES TROYENS from The Proms — 1:00 on DR P2 — deserves the cheers it gets. 2 F.K.

W is for Wallow, which is what Bel Canto fanciers will do in this collection of Montserrat Caballe’s Greatest Semi-Detached performances. 1:00 on FRANCE MUSIQUE. 3 F.K. for those who want to catch the lines she mangles.

I is for Irene, and also for Ice Princess. (Some will claim the two are synonymous.) From San Francisco 1:00 on KBYU. 3 F.K. because there has never been a performance of TURANDOT which went completely right.

T is for Tune, of which there is exactly one in SCHWANDA DER DUDELSACKPFEIFFER, 1:00 on NPR World of Opera. 2 F.K.

H is for Happiness, a commodity totally lacking in PELLEAS ET MELISANDE, from The Proms, 1:00 on NRK KLASSIK. 2 F.K., 3 F.K. if the Woebegone Penetrationist shows up.

O is for “Oh, James Levine. I remember him..” A top-notch cast fails to inject much life into this corpse. 3 F.K.

U is for Untranslatable. “SOMRAK BOGOV” refers to one of the Wagner operas, I assume, and I’m sure it’s not RIENZI. 1:00 on RADIO SLOVENIA TRETJE. Anywhere from 1 to 4 F.K., depending on what it is and who’s doing it.

T is for Twins, as in CAV and PAG, and whoever thought of pairing Elgar’s THE APOSTLES (2 F.K.) with THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD (4 F.K.) has either a wicked sense of humor or an incredible disdain for the palates of opera-lovers everywhere. 1:00 on RTP ANTENA 2.

B is for Bastard. Didn’t Figaro have a child in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA? What happened to that child’s mother? We are not told of any divorce, and suddenly bang-spot we get to LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (3 F.K., 1:00 on WCLV.) B could also be for Bigamy.

E is for Elysium, natch. Richard Croft goes to Hell for Mireille Delunsch, 1:00 on WRR. 2 F.K.

I is for Incontinent, which I am sure Falstaff is along with his other appealing qualities. The Kubelik recording of the Nicolai opera (2 F.K.) is on BARTOK RADIO at 1:30.

N is for Natal Days, celebrated by both Oliver Knussen and Alexander Goehr from The Proms on BBC 3 at 1:30. No data to rate.

G is for Good. In fact, there is probably not a better performance being aired today than this LA DONNA DEL LAGO from La Scala with Di Donato and Florez. 1 F.K.

V is for Vercingetorix, who does not appear in Zimmerman’s DIE SOLDATEN, from Salzburg, 1:30 on RADIO OESTERREICH (no data to rate.) Neither do Patton or Stonewall Jackson. But Gabriela Benackova is in it. Go figure.

U is for Umlauts, which are peppered liberally throughout the program notes and personnel listings of the Baltic Sea Festival, 1:30 on RADIO TRE and SVERIGES P2. No data to rate, but Nina Stemme is singing Salome’s Final scene.

L is for Lungpower, needed to fill the vast ampitheatre at Orange, even when the opera is LA BOHEME. 3 F.K., maybe 4 F.K. depending on your tolerance level for Vittorio Grigolo.

G is for Gurnemanz, who goes on and on in his usual way in the PARSIFAL from Bayreuth on HR2 KULTUR at 2:00. But Burkhard Fritz is good enough to justify a 3 F.K. rating since he is likely to polarize opinions.

A is for Apple, because A is always for Apple, even when the opera is DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES from Vienna, on KLARA at 2:00. 2 F.K. Oh, all right. A is for Acephalic.

T is for Tantalizing. People think Dvorak’s THE JACOBIN is going to be about some English uprising, but it’s a rather pleasant domestic comedy. Maybe they should rename it “I Love LIbuse.” 2:00 on LATVIA RADIO KLASIKA, 2 F.K.

E is for Easter, a more appropriate season, perhaps, for this concert of sacred works by Bach and Zelenka. 2:00 on RADIO 4 NETHERLANDS, no data to rate.

W is for Wameau. Which is how the French pronounce it. Just imagine! A whole nation of Elmer Fudds. LA GUIRLANDE and ZEPHYHRE on RADIO STEPHANSDOM at 2:00. 2 F.K.

G is for Gitchee-Goommee. It’s sad when you realize that Hiawatha never heard one note by Mozart, But we have the chance to hear the whole LITANIE DE VENERABILI ALTARIS SACRAMENTO, which comes to us not from Sacramento, but from Gdansk on DWOJKA POLSKIE at 2:30.
