Triple crown
Parterre Box draws your attention to another Macbeth taking the stage this month, the triple-threat baritone Luca Micheletti.

While many eyes will be on Quinn Kelsey’s first staged Macbeth in New York next week, Italian baritone Luca Micheletti will also be singing the role in a production in Liège opposite the Lady Macbeth of Ewa Płonka.
But singing is not the only skill in the suave Italian baritone’s playbook; in addition to a robust performance career which this season includes the title roles in Figaro and Don Giovanni in Madrid and Milan and Iago in Berlin, Micheletti is also an actor, director, and a scholar. (He holds a doctorate in Italian Studies from Rome’s La Sapienza University, according to his website.)
Earlier this year, he directed a production of Simon Boccanegra at La Fenice which was praised by Parterre Box critic Larry Wolff, and next fall, he’ll direct a production of Debussy’s unfinished La chute de la maison Usher in Naples. Listeners might be surprised to learn that his assured vocalism was the final addition to his artistic profile; he only premiered professionally as a baritone in 2018, as Escamillo in Cagliari. Prior to that, he had acted and directed extensively with his family’s theatre troupe I Guitti in Brescia.
Today’s clip was recorded last year in Torino where Micheletti sang the title role in Macbeth opposite Lidia Fridman and was conducted by the eminent Riccardo Muti.
