The babyfaced bass-baritone has an exciting summer planned: Amfortas in Frankfurt (directed by Brigitte Fassbaender!) later this month, followed by Wotan in Das Rheingold in Munich and Donner in the same opera at Bayreuth during the summer.

This amuse-bouche du jour features Brownlee in a rare and recent stateside appearance: as the Dutchman in The Santa Fe Opera’s 2023 Der fliegende Holländer. Chicago audiences can look forward to seeing Brownlee’s next scheduled U.S. performances when he sings Jochanaan in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s upcoming Salome in January.

Dutchman is, of course, on the mind at parterre box this week as Christian Ocier reviews the latest recording from Decca featuring Gerald Finley and Lise Davidsen.
