In addition to the dates noted by WindyCityOperaman, today also also marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Birgit Nilsson. Our friends at Opera Depot have prepared a tribute to the magnificent dramatic soprano, including a free download of the 1962 Buenos Aires Ring cycle.
La Cieca is pleased as can be to announce that our friends at Opera Depot (not pictured) are offering a whopping 60% off on all German opera recordings all week long. Their free download is nothing to sneeze at either: a complete Ring cycle from Bayreuth in 1973 is yours just for visiting the site.
Lincoln Center’s Great Performers presents Diana Damrau on Saturday, December 10th, joined by Xavier de Maistre on harp, performing works by Debussy, Strauss, Fauré, and more. A regular at the Met Opera, Damrau has been called “a soprano of matchless intelligence” (Guardian).
“One of the greatest proponents of the German lied tradition” (New York Times), baritone Christian Gerhaher performs an all-Mahler program on Saturday, December 17th, featuring Gerold Huber on piano. The Telegraph calls him “the most moving singer in the world.”
Both performances are at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall.
Relax, enjoy a steaming cup of java and celebrate Sunday with a discussion of off-topic and general interest subjects.
La Cieca is sure that the cher public (pictured), just like all other red-blooded Americans or foreign nationals, will spend the day today doing their “Cyber Monday” shopping.
