Decca's darling acts out her issues: conflictual family of origin, lousy
self-esteem, thwarted need for parental affirmation, enforced dependency
on public transportation . . . and MORE! (On the next album, she will
record the Thais, she promises. Really.) Center: "Chickpea" Bartoli
belts out numbers associated with the immortal Ethel Merman, including
"Down in the Depths on the Ninetieth Floor," as heard in the Tower Scene
of Pelleas et Melisande. Right: Ruth Ann Swenson wraps her
tongue around such classics as "Parlez-moi d'amour", "Ouvre ton coeur",
"Plaisir d'amour", "Si tu le veux", "Les Chemins de l'amour" as well as
modern gems like "Born to Be Cheap" "I'm So Beautiful" and "Shoot Your
Shot". Below right: "Ogni Cura si doni al diletto, e s'accorra
al magico petto!"
Below: Party (record) like it's 1999: "One Hand, One Hard" ![]() |
