Cher Public

Broadcast: Il trovatore

Yet another whack at Trovatore tonight starting at 7:25, cher public!

  • Camille

Jeez, that Bb again!!!!!! This is the first time I’ve begun to feel ‘I brividi’ when this is sung for a long time now.

Was anyone at Dolora Zajick’s turn on February 6th?

    • kegel_dialectic

When I heard her on the 6th, her Stride la vampa wasn’t as secure or thrilling as I remembered, but was still solid. However, after a prolonged intermission, it was announced that Anita would be singing acts III and IV. Anita was phenomenal as always.

      • Camille

oh reallllllllly?????? I’m glad I didn’t go, then, as I’d have not wanted to hear her in that predicament. I hope it won’t be her last one. thanks for letting me know as I’d originally thought to have gone but had something else to do.

  • Rowna Sutin

    Stupendous chest!

  • Camille

    Brava.

  • LaFavorita

I get the impression that Rach darkens her lower register so make it sound like a contralto.

    • Camille

It sounds a bit like that, yes, but it also sounds as if she knows how to do it, to get in there and out again, as evidenced by what she is doing right at the moment.

  • Rowna Sutin

In this section she sounds so lyrical

  • Countessa Salome

    That chest though!!!!

  • Camille

well, this time she got that big old C pretty well, better than opening night. She is gonna stick with it, I see now. Brava!

  • Countessa Salome

    Nice C

    • Camille

That’s a huge accomplishment for a singer whose basic grounding and tessitura is pitched much lower than a soprano’s, I must say. She shows not only a wonderful voice but someone got to her to train her well, or else it’s just instinct.

  • Rowna Sutin

I take back the nice things I said about the baritone . .

    • southerndoc1

      This is painful.

      • Rowna Sutin

How do these people get hired?

        • southerndoc1

Remember, the commenters here loved him in the Scala Chenier and were dissing Gelb for not hiring him!

          • Rowna Sutin

I didn’t love him in that

          • Camille

He really sounds not much at all like he did in the Scala Chénier, but then, I have heard him a few times at the MET, Enrico in a Lucia with Shaggy a couple years back, and he sounded raw and rugged that night, too.

Maybe they are all ‘ILL’!!!!! I’ve been sick for two months now!!! So much coughing and carrying on at the MET and at Carnegie Hall. I feel kind of icky when I got out the other night, but it was raining cats ‘n dogs, so…….

  • Camille

    Is he sick tonight?

    • Countessa Salome

      Who? Mr. Wobble?

      • Rowna Sutin

        Salsi

  • Rowna Sutin

    Wooly and awful overall

  • swordsnsolvers

I know there were some slams against Kelsey but that was so much worse

    • grimoaldo2

      Yeah, very disappointing

  • southerndoc1

    Oh dear.

  • grimoaldo2

“partir!andiam!silenzio” the chorus sing over and over again here, which is what The Pirates of Penzance is digging at when the police sing “we go, we go” and the Major-General says “yes but you DON’T go”

  • Rowna Sutin

That was like a chirp fest

  • grimoaldo2

I enjoyed the orchestral flourishes at the end of the scene more than anything else in it

  • Camille

“Sei tu dal ciel disceso o in ciel son’io con te?!??!!!!” One of his most beautiful phrases, In any opera.

  • Rowna Sutin

    Good night all

    • LaFavorita

      Rowna, the night is young.

    • Camille

      Ciao Row!

  • grimoaldo2

    Night Rowna, see you later

  • Brackweaver

On a different thought, the picture of Keenlyside for his recital looks makes him look like Rupert Penry Jones’ older brother.
