Oropesa is sounding really fabulous -- perfectly in tune, lovely tone -- can’t wait for her Gilda this spring

  • Ivy Lin

Gerhard Siegel’s English diction is really exemplary.

    • fletcher

They said he was a Wagnerian -- I’m assuming Mime or Loge?

      • Ivy Lin

Yes he’s been playing Mime for years.

        • fletcher

Oh and apparently Lohengrin and a recent Tristan -- hmm!

          • CCorwinNYC

Siegel sings three performances of Tristan opposite Nina Stemme with the Cleveland Orchestra in late April.

      • Seth David Lubin

Yikes sounded like someone got his testical caught in a vice. That may have been the worst high note I
have heard from the stage of MET!

      • Also Erik in Hollander.

      • H_Badger

he also had a heart attack at the Met in 2009 (!)

      • And Hermann in Pique Dame.

  • Nell TuoCuor

I had a look at the Met program for H&G today — they have a totally adorable cartoon synopsis of the opera … for kids, presumably. http://www.metopera.org/metoperafiles/season/2017-18/operas/hansel_and_gretel/programs/010618%20Hansel%20and%20Gretel.pdf.

Any other operas we’d like to see illustrated? I’m thinking Bluebeard’s Castle.

    • Juan

I think they did one for Zauberflote as well.

    • fletcher

      Trovatore

    • Ivy Lin

I think it’d be awesome for them to include a family tree in the Ring programs.

      • Nell TuoCuor

        She was his AUNT!!

        • Ivy Lin

Also the fact that Fricka and Wotan have no children but he and Erda have 8.

  • fletcher

Kelsey has this great timbre that’s somewhere between Terfel and Tomlinson and I’m here for it

    • H_Badger

we need WAY more of him.

      • Nell TuoCuor

count di luna .. all righty then!

        • H_Badger

Monday January 22. Done and done.

  • fletcher

  • Nell TuoCuor

Something a little meatier and fab from today’s Gretel

    • Satisfied

OK…who wants to see her kill in the Decker?

    • Luvtennis

Glorious!!!! Reminds me a bit of Lorengar’s recorded performance!!!! Wonderful.

  • Satisfied

Just back from today’s performance. and just WOW! I was at the prima run many years ago but appreciate the opera and the production so much more now having had more exposure to regie-productions and Wagner! Absolutely resplendent: a perfect combination of wonderful signing and exceptional orchestral performing.

This was easily, my first highlight of the season! I have a distinct feeling that the overwhelming high points this season will be revivals, next with the Girard Parsifal next month and followed by the Chereau Elektra. Semiramide and the Lucia (second run) also have much promise.

Anyone catch the Nozze? The current cast looks very promising.
