The tenor Paul Finel has died at 93, Forum Opéra reported on Wednesday. Finel had a large stage repertoire of lyric and spinto roles, and sang Blanche’s brother on the classic Dervaux/EMI set of Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites with Denise Duval.

Here he is in the love duet from Tosca, en français, with another singer from the above-mentioned Poulenc set, Régine Crespin. This comes from a very good Prêtre-conducted LP of excerpts presumably made for the local market. René Bianco was Scarpia, in the far too little of the part included.
