Just Heaven!

Astonishing Anna Netrebko intones the “Monologo di Fedra” at a dress rehearsal of Adriana Lecouvreur

  • Niel Rishoi

Riveting and commanding. I bet she would do well in non-singing roles, both on stage and on film.

I love Netrebko, but It didn’t go much better in the first performance. There are, of course, many ways to declaim this scene, but Cilea established the proportions and Pido isn’t helping. He just doesn’t get it. Compare the way the orchestra punctuates these renderings:

    This pianist gets it!

      She’s dead.

        What just happened?!?

Declaiming Racine is quite the test -- and imho (quite biased in favour of Anna) Anna shows up quite decently in comparison to the clip of Sarah Bernhardt!

QPP rightly observes that Pido isn’t helping.

  • CwbyLA

She is very good. I saw Gheorghiu when this production premiered and she was very effective in this scene as well.

  • Susan Szbornak

In the pic she looks like Elettra from Idomeneo about to rip into ‘D’Oreste, d’Ajace’…

      Thank you Ivy.

    • Leontiny

Wow. Thanks, Ivy. She pours out that gorgeous tone and certainly brings the reigning diva thing in her sound.
