Meli’s idiomatic Italian is really a joy to listen to here. Anna is magnificent but there’s nothing like a native Italian singer’s vowels rolling off their tongues.

    • Antikitschychick

not just the vowels but the style..it’s so intuitive for them…everyone else has to work so hard to even come close…well some more than others…

    • Cicciabella

The fact is that Meli just keeps getting better and better. I love the way he refuses to bawl his way through Radames, but only uses volume when there is a point to it.

  • Ivy Lin

    Beautiful float from Anna here.

  • Camille

Hoping there will be a recording or DVD or webcast or something to commemorate these performances. Even if very, very early on for Netrebko it bodes well for all future performances and there is so much else going on that is so beautiful as well.

For once I am happy I WASN’T THERE! I got the best of it all right here at home.

    BRAVO MAESTRO!

    • Yige Li

I’m recording the stream (I guess a lot of people here do). Pretty sure video will appear somewhere online tomorrow.

      • Camille

Right, I suspected that it would be. it may disappear after a while, though.

      • Rowna Sutin

How does one record these streams? I am a techno moron . . .

        • Yige Li

There’re a lot of ways and a lot of tools… Personally, I usually track down the source code of the streaming webpage to find the path and save the streaming as if a normal mp3 file but just cancel the download process when it’s finished. You need a little bit knowledge of CS for that, but the good part is you don’t need any extra tool. Admitted I don’t always find the path, but it works 90% time.

    • suzyQ

I also hope for a DVD of this performance!

    • Ivy Lin

Camille, vk.com is the place to download all video transmissions.

    • Donna Annina

Judging from reviews and stills, I’d be happy with a cd.

      • Camille

I hear you! Ruperto was none too happy!!!

  • Liz.S

I have many fave parts in this piece but this is one of the best opera that has supreme ending -- musically and dramatically lingers on for long

  • Ivy Lin

I always find the way the opera ends on Amneris’s prayer so beautiful. Shows the genius of Verdi.

  • Antikitschychick

    flawless…

  • Ivy Lin

Guys, vk.com is a Russian social media website that literlaly has every video transmission that ever existed. Anna is Russian so I expect some devoted Russian fans are uploading this performance already.

  • Donna Annina

    OH GORGEOUS!!!!

  • Liz.S

Wow… This perf is today’s canon

  • Antikitschychick

was wishing for at least a few seconds of silence at the end, but I’m glad the audience finally gave a rapturous ovation

  • Antikitschychick

    there we go…Bravi!

  • Rowna Sutin

Bye all -- see you around

    • Cicciabella

      Bye, Rowna. I’m still at L’aborrita rival…

  • Camille

    GROSSER Applausen!

  • Donna Annina

Bravi to all. Stunning vocal and choral performances and the orchestra was beyond compare. Muti is a indeed a divo.

  • Camille

Very happy to have heard this today. At last, after all these years, I’ve heard an Aïda to love.

Buonanotte e buona fortuna a tuttiquanti!

  • Ivy Lin

    Bravi to all. Amazing performance.

  • Liz.S

This announcer’s name pronunciation sucks -- and we want to hear who’s bowing!

  • Yige Li

Bravi tutti. It was a nice listening. BTW, if anyone wants the recording of “Macbeth” by Muti and CSO in 2015 recorded from radio streaming I can upload it. It features Salsi (better than Lucic in Muti’s performance in Salzburg, in my opinion), Meli, and also a very impressive Serjan. (Also, anyone knows what happened between Serjan and Muti? She was scheduled to sing “Ernani” in concert with Muti in Salzburg in 2014, but dropped and was subtitled by Vittoria Yeo, the alternative Aida for the last two performance. Since then Serjan has never performed with Mut.)

  • Ivy Lin

Wow Anna is finally getting some love from the audience.

    • Antikitschychick

I think it’s more that they subdued the applause throughout the broadcast and only turned the audio all the way up at the end…at least that’s what it sounded like to me

      • Donna Annina

And according to the review in the Guadian, the intervals were excessively long, adding to an already lengthy evening.

        • Antikitschychick

that’s a shame….yeah long intervals can really put a damper on things. I’m glad we didn’t have to withstand those although I’m sure it was still worth it.

  • Cicciabella

The costumes get better from Act 3 onwards..softer and less vulgar. Amneris wears a flattering floaty white gown with a train. Enjoying her duet with Radames: Semenchuk’s timbre recalls Stignani.
