    Jonas has just encored E lucevan le stelle. I hope Vittorio G was listening and learning that it is possible to sing it with deep emotion without indulging in sobbing and whimpering.

    The Wienerstaatsoper is licking its wounds by giving everyone who registered for the free broadcast, access to the several streams that were offered between Monday and Thursday evening. PLUS 1 months free subscription to Staatsoperlive. That month includes a Gala for Domingo and a full Ring cycle. Of course WSO hopes you will continue with a paid subscription. For those who were unable to catch any of the transmissions, it will be “around” quickly.

    Absolutely phenomenal performance by Kaufmann. THAT bis was truly and richly deserved. And it was a different E lucevan than the first, a continuation rather than repetition. Just as the first E lucevan could only have been sung by the Mario of Act I. One really should see the full performance. Kaufmann’s building and shaping of the character was masterful. I could go on…
