Regie contest for the new La Monnaie Mitridate. You can participate until September 15th -- authors of the three best proposals (send in five copies) are invited to Brussels to talk to the jury. The best one gets the job! Rousset conducts, Michael Spyers and Lenneke Ruiten are in the cast. The winner actually directs the new production:

    • Hippolyte

Interesting gimmick but a shame about most of the cast--based on the telecast of her Giunia in Lucio Silla from La Scala earlier this year I’m no fan of Ruiten and I can’t imagine that Papatanisiu won’t be a mess as Sifare. Too bad since Rousset conducted such a great recording of Mitridate and his Paris production which I saw in 2000 was pretty wonderful too, both despite Asawa’s appalling Farnace.
