Where in the world is Cecilia Bartoli?

“Famed mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli has canceled her California tour, including performances March 31 and April 2 at UC Berkeley’s Zellerbach Hall, organizers have announced. Tour organizers cited ‘unforeseen circumstances’ for the cancellation but gave no further details.” [Mercury News]

    WTF!

Doesn’t she hate to fly or doesn’t fly at all? I remember reading when she used to go to the East Coast she would go by ship. Perhaps she thought the whole thing is too strenous to go by ship and then over the whole continent. She is one who likes to stay close to home. She was seen at the Rome Aida btw and was even interviewed by the Italian TV.

      • Feldmarschallin

Of course she should have thought about all that before signing the contract.

        • That can’t the reason she cancelled this tour. She wouldn’t be that stupid to sign a contract and then being to terrified to fly. It’s known she hates flying, but she flew to Australia one or two years ago.

No way it is about the flying. There must be a deeper reason for that! She is a very determined and serious artist, and considers her plannings very well. I just hope she and her family are all well!

  • Oh no Cecilia!

She offered a period in 2016 to postpone the concerts, not to only cancel them.

She’s been held captive at the court of Catherine the Great in St Petersburg.

    No fear of flying there.

I’m actually on the west coast and I had a ticket to one of the recitals. It’s kind of an embarrassment that she canceled because there was so much anticipation for it. Before the OC Phil recital and she was even supposed to participate in a pre-performance dinner and after the performance where was supposed to be another gathers. All of the recitals were nearly sold out on this tour so I hope she has a really good reason to cancel and not jus the fear of flying.

It must be disappointing for you Javier, but Bartoli never cancels without a good reason. When she does, she usually replans the concert. I hope that you get to see her then. In her concerts she’s always very generous. She doesn’t pad her arias with loads of instrumental numbers, like many other singers do, and she usually gives many encores. Here’s wishing her all the best.

      • Yep -- she’s a very generous artist and from what I’ve heard she is always popular among all her colleagues. Despite the naysayers I think she’s a technical force of nature and long may she sing.

  • Maybe she’s with Vladimir Putin, who hasn’t been sighted in over a week.
