French tips

Valerian Ruminksi (not pictured), that bass-baritone who shot off his mouth all over Facebook about a drag queen’s manicure and got fired from a prestigious gig with Opera Lyra—remember him? Well, he joins Anne Midgette and Michelle Paul (director of product development at Patron Technology) to chat with WQXR‘s Naomi Lewin to muse about online oversharing. (Hint: they’re mostly against it.) Listen after the jump.

Funny I just finished watching A Free Soul with Norma Shearer, Gable and Howard. I am working my way through Forbidden Hollywood.

Sorry, but I have neither the time nor inclination to listen to this -- but I do wonder what type of ‘online oversharing’ has to do with opera, Patron Technology or the pompous Mme. Lewin of WQXR?
-- Someone going to a performance and recording a clip (usually in dreadful audio sound) -- a singer putting up a concert clip in order to get notice -- do such activities pose a threat to the 3 witches mentioned above?

    • I have neither the time nor the inclination to address your aggressive ignorance, but I’m going to do it anyway. Listen to the linked show, which precisely answers your questions.

Sorry -- it wasn’t about what I thought it would be, but it wasn’t that interesting or relevant to me either -- much of what they discussed has been rehashed over and over again on this site -- none of it included my limited interpretation of valid worthwhile ‘online oversharing’ in musicworld, which for me encompasses broadcasts, videocasts or postings of actual performance material only.
-- twitter, facebook and other social media sites (except this one) I am not that familiar with nor interested in.
-- You or any of the social network savvy posters on this site could have given just as valid opinions as these people did in this broadcast. Tamar Iveri’s posting her infamous personal letter is a good example of poor judgment, but hasn’t that been evident for a long time?
-- I like change: I am tired of listening to WQXR & WFMT (so I rarely listen to them) with their dated 1960’s formats. I am tired of reading Midgette’s dull reviews (so I don’t read them at all anymore).
-- Patron Technology doesn’t interest me either. Usually these organizations wind up funding themselves more than anyone else, but you be the observer if you are interested.

This was very interesting, and since I know Ruminski, I know he’s sincere. The man made a mistake, but he is not a homophobe at all.
