Marianne, the foto is lovely -- with that tail hanging down, Stojanova looks like California Chrome’s long-lost sister.

Where did the Alcina go that was on here briefly yesterday? I was looking forward to that but now it has vanished amongst the ombre pallide? Were those the technical problems mentioned above?

The Le Villi I had to listen to twice in order to believe my ears. Jose Cura Sings! At least a good part of the role, he really sang instead of bleated, crooned, groaned, hiccuped, or faked. One just never knows.

A very nice reading by the Maestro, whom I have heard do dire things in other verismo (Pagliacci and who succeeded very well here. And it seems la diva Stoyanova was almost perfectly cast in this part. Exciting finish to this interesting oddity of an “Opera-Ballett”, which certainly would be a welcome addition to the MET calendar paired with, oh I don’t know, Salome or something? La notte di Zoraima?
