Cher Public

Geherheimnishehr hallt mir dein Wort

It’s not a sure thing, only a “perhaps,” but it’s the most exciting Regie news La Cieca has heard all season. According to an interview with Alexander Pereira, intendant of the Salzburg Festival, published in the current issue of Opera magazine, this summer’s new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by parterre fave Stefan Herheim “will also go to Paris and, perhaps, New York.”

The assumption here is that the Met wants to see what the production looks like complete and on stage before committing to programming it. With a new Tristan already on the roster for 2016-2017, La Cieca guesses that the earliest the Meistersinger could show up on the Met schedule would be a year later, i.e., the 2017-2018 season that is currently in the planning stage.

AND Herheim will be doing HOFFMANN in Bregenz! But before that he will have done Verid’s Sicillian Vespers in French for Covent Garden. I hope we will rock the MET too someday.

This falls into the category of Yippee!

  • A new Tristan and Meistersinger would certainly go far to fill the void left by the departure of the Ring. One can only congratulate Peter Gelb in his efforts to bring some of the leading and most interesting directors in the business to the Met.

    OMG…OMG…OMG…OMG…(breathes into a paper bag…)

I have been none-too-quiet about my absolute NEED for Herheim to come to New York (it gets expensive to see someone you adore abroad!)

    PLEASE OPERA GODS…LET THIS HAPPEN!!!

That Herheim Rheingold was years ago.

Realized that after I posted the link. My bad!
