Just listening to a broadcast of the opening night of the new Barcelona Hoffmann from a few nights ago. All of a sudden I have to pull my headphones out of my ears when I hear the shrieking of Olympia. I go check their website and lo and behold it’s Kathleen Kim. WTF? has she not shown enough how awful she is at the Met?? can’t believe they let her her sing, let alone paid her to do so, in a new production of Hoffmann at the Liceu.
BTW Naouri is singing gloriously, fantastic singer who at this point is probably worth more bang for your buck than his wife.
Kathleen Kim’s appeal escapes me too. But she’s better than Daniela Fally, if one is to judge be her awful Zerbinetta broadcast on the BBC from Vienna the other day. I have never heard the role so poorly and unsympathetically sung.
