Michael Capasso, General Director of the Dicapo Opera Theatre has announced that Dicapo will be going on hiatus for a period of six months,” states a press release from the company’s publicist.

The press release continues:

The impetus for the break is the postponement of “The Letter,” an opera noir based on the classic Somerset Maugham story by Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Paul Moravec and libretto by noted critic-playwright-biographer Terry Teachout, slated to open this coming February. Work on the revision was severely delayed by Hurricane Sandy so as to ensure that this New York premiere will have sufficient preparation and rehearsal time, Mr. Moravec, Mr. Teachout, and Dicapo Opera Theatre have jointly decided to reschedule the company’s production till the beginning of the 2013-2014 season.
