It’s obviously Ernani.
1. Act II: Ernani (disguised as a pilgrim) interrupts Silva and Elvira on their wedding day.
2. Act I: Silva is enraged to find two men (Ernani and Don Carlo) in his fiancee’s boudoir, although two of them is actually kind of safe — threesomes somehow never occur in Verdi. Regie stagings of Verdi … perhaps.
3. Act III: Don Carlo, having been elected Holy Roman Emperor, orders all the conspirators shot before the “Charlemagne Election Special” zips him off to his coronation.
Or could it be The Rake’s Progress after all?
