In a startling move sure to dominate the news cycle, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney has tapped bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin as his running mate in the 2012 Presidential race. Says Romney, “I feel Gene has a special understanding of our shared Anglo-Saxon heritage.” [The Telegraph]

I guess being a pagan is OK, as long as you’re the right kind of pagan. If Romney were assassinated after the election, we could look forward to Entweihte Götter, instead of Hail to the Chief. Either way, it would be the first VP the US has ever had with decent top notes.

On another note, one wonders if the Mormons have done proxy baptisms for all those Romanovs?

  • manou says:

Well, it is called the White House.

  • phoenix says:

Gene was probably reluctant at first… but that fist (see foto) will do it every time!

From perennial favourite CommandOpera (loath as I am to increase his site traffic):

COMMANDOpera is well connected to diverse sources globally on all manner of interests. Today, it has come to this writers attention that Miss Condoleeza Rice has been selected to the very short list of Vice Presidential possibilities of American Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Further, it is understood Miss Rice is indeed the front-runner. COMMANDOpera determined go live and publish this announcement given the ramifications. Miss Rice would unquestionably add heft to Mr. Romney’s conservative credentials, not to mention her obvious ability to siphon off a significant portion of the African American vote from Mr. Obama.

There is also a lovely picture of Condi wearing a set of teeth selected to match her necklace.

    • OpinionatedNeophyte says:

Is it any surprise that Ms. Closet Queen of Mardi Gras, three years running, is a republican? If I ever stumble upon her website all I can think is that her web server smells like failed dreams and falafel.

    • Clita del Toro says:

Well Ms. Rice lives in a house with two gay friends, a man and a woman. So what does that mean??? Will Romney go for that? lol

      • OpinionatedNeophyte says:

Ms. Rice, her bowl cut, her veneers and her pearl necklaces have *all* said (on more than one occasion) that they have no interest in being vice president. Commando Opera is trading in political rumors from June and acting like its fresh off the presser.

  • Constantine A. Papas says:

Did Rush Limbaugh turned the VP down?

    • A. Poggia Turra says:

That stupid jackball Commandouchebag can’t even spellCondoleezza correctly…..

Condi-slice won’t run -- the galpal won’t let her. And as for Drugbo, not a chance, someone might find about his visits to his young amigas in the D.R.

      • brooklynpunk says:

While Condi is not exactly my cuppa— very nuch not--!!…who EXACTLY IS her “gal-pal”--or is that just rumor-mongering, without any PROOF what-so-ever? (AND-- even if she was “one of the gals”--so WHAT???-- as far as I am aware of, she has NEVER uttered a homophobic statement , or remark—and therfore her private life should remain JUST THAT-PRIVATE

(A DISCLAIMER-- although Condi’s politics and mine are as far apart as possible—I did a long-term temp gig in her office, at Stanford University, for a spell--hey, it was only a job……) and she was actualy the nicest person I had to deal with , in that office….)

        • A. Poggia Turra says:

Well, I did know someone who worked on Don Kennedy’s executive staff in the 1990s -- according to him her orientation was known but as you say, wasn’t public fodder. I have no idea of CR’s stance of gay political issues, my point is that the press would NOT have any hesitancy about going after orientation/relationship if she accepted a nomination -- I’m not defending that, just stating the inevitable.

(And it’s not just a sexual issue -- I fully believe that Colin Powell would have run for POTUS were it not for his wife vetoing it).

        • Clita del Toro says:

Rice did work and lie for a homophobic asshole—-remember?

          • brooklynpunk says:

Whatever George Bush’s MANY MANY MANY Crimes and Misdemeanors-- I DO NOT RECALL that he ACTUALLY MADE any homophobic comments, while in office as President—can you provide us with ONE, Clita..?

AND-- even if you can name one— working for an ASSHOLE does not make one quilty, as well— if it did…a LOT OF US wiould be in real bad trouble--including our beloved JJ…

I am NOT DEFENDING EITHER CONDI…and surely not President Shrub--BUT-- what’s fair is only fair, in attacking our enemies—-no?

24 February 2004: “A few judges and local authorities are presuming to change the most fundamental institution of civilisation. Their actions have created confusion on an issue that requires clarity,” Mr Bush said.

He said that while some states might want to have legal arrangements for gay people, marriage should only ever be between a man and a woman. ”

I DIDN’T CLAIM that Shrub was a friend, or even sympathetic to Gay people—AFTER ALL— he is /was a right-wing Repug…BUT-- opposing Gay Marriage is not Per Se , a homophobic stance—unless it is accompanied by language which leans that way…

The other issues are VERY VERY troubling—and are not supportive-to say the least--of Gay people- but,… I tend to be very cautious before using any “phobiic” term--as it sometimes is all too easy to use such words ’till they become meaningless….

I also did not mean to flame Clita on this issue-

          • armerjacquino says:

BP, we’ll have to agree to disagree. As far as I’m concerned, to argue that certain privileges should be available only to straight people is a copper-bottomed definition of homophobia.

          • Don_Dano says:

Has Hillary Clinton ever disavowed her very clear statements against marriage equality? If not, is she too homophobic?

          • armerjacquino says:

Wow, I don’t know how to make it any clearer.

If you’re in favour of offering a privilege to straight people and not to gay people, that is a homophobic standpoint, whether you’re George Bush, Hillary Clinton, a drag queen, Uncle Tom Cobley, Giuditta Pasta, Cher, Oscar the Grouch, the cast of SMASH or Sappho.

          • brooklynpunk says:

Well--her husband .Bill was certainly moving in that nebulous direction with his introduction of DADT, and DOMA ( “the defense of Marriage Act”)

Channelling a little Andy Borowitz today, are we?

    Nice job.

  • Hans Lick says:

Nikitin was born in the U.S.? First I’ve heard of it.

Mind you, I’d vote for him if he were at the top of the ticket. His self-questing narration as Rubinstein’s The Demon was enough to win me over big time!

(If Condi Rice gets the nod, white supremacists may drop Mitt! Good news for everybody!)
