Cher Public

Intermission feature

Dull though the summer may be, La Cieca invites the cher public (pictured) to discuss off-topic and general interest subjects in the weekly intermission feature.

    Also, ANIMATRONIC SWAN?????

Jonas appears trying so hard not to laugh, throw the creepy thing to the ground and run off the stage. But the man is a great professional. And the singing of the two leads is incredible. Anja does not strike me as a graceful or comfortable actress in this context. Awkward. Out of place.

It seems washed-up Woody Allen’s latest middlebrow travelogue, set in Rome, has Fabio Armiliato in the cast. Can anyone comment?

    • Camille

Yes. According to an article which Ercole linked, his wife?, Signora Dessi, cancelled performances to rush to his side to protect him from the threat of Penelope Cruz.

Opens tomorrow, or Friday,, in NYC and L. A.

Oh yes, the announcer from the NY Phil, one Mr. Baldwin, is also in the film.
Can not hardly contain my excitement at the thought of all that middle aged neurosis.

I like this neologism, found on http://likelyimpossibilities.blogspot.co.uk/:
“She (De Niese) engaged in some approximatura at inadvisably fast tempos in Act 1.”

BSO is releasing archival audio streams daily at http://www.bso.org/brands/tanglewood/features/from-the-audio-archives.aspx
Yesterday it was Otello with Niska, Cassilly and Milnes. They release it for free for 24 hours and then you can purchase it for the next 24 hours. (Now having said that I am unable to make today’s selection play.)

Yes,any of us trashed her…but you can be “flawed” and do more with words and emotion than the “generic” divas..This is her opera farewell.Go back to the 60’s and play the scene when in act two the ship comes in..Devastating!!!!

    I adore Martha Moedl…so why not Scotto..but I admit,I did not appreciate her enough….until now…..

Heh. A DVD review of Bartlett Sher’s Met LE COMTE ORY in the July GRAMOPHONE credits Gary Halvorson as the stage director, and blames the production on him (“…director Gary Halvorson does Pertusi no favors by having the aria sung in front of an improvised curtain…Halvorson and his designer Michael Yeargan have created an 18th-century theatre…” etc.).

Olivia Stapp…another of the singers I FORCE YOU to hear….One of the greats..but you have to be a collector…..She is a wonderful singer and a fun lady…….Today,no one could touch her…well, today,no one could touch Margherita Roberti.
