Happy Leap Day!
Not only is it Rossini’s 53rd birthday but also an opportunity to celebrate the art of the intervallic leap. YouTube yourselves into frenzy, cher public!

This is one of my all time favorite performances! What a bravura piece for Podles, and also, Verrett did it so fantabulously back at the Met in the 75-76 season. There’s also an extended scena that Rossini adapted, which I think, Horne performed in concert (with her husband, I think).
Leontyne Price, Verdi Requiem, Solti/CSO recording from the late 1970s: Tremens, factus, sum ego, et cetera.
‘Nuff said.
