People get regie

Heavens, what with breakdown of the site a couple weeks ago, the Regie quiz has been forgotten for all too long! The answer to the previous edition (which as La Cieca recalls it, someone guessed correctly) is Schoenberg’s Von Heute auf Morgen, as produced by John Fulljames at the Opéra national de Lyon. And now, something more from “Gestern,” if you get my drift.

    Almost TOO easy!

    It’s clearly Cosi fan tutte:

    1) Ferrando lays siege to Fiordiligi (Act II)

    2) Guglielmo having not too ardently seduced Dorabella (in the garden) has doubts about what F and F are up to

    3) Despina, as a rather slutty lawyer, leads the chorus of welcome as the soldiers return (finale)

Unless it’s Puritani all the time.

Well, the casting of Helen Mirren as the leading lady gives it away completely- it’s Die Fledermaus.

#1 – Dame Rosalinde is comforted by her lieber Gabriel after hearing the news he’s to be imprisoned for another three days.

#2 – Adele laughingly taunts Eisenstein (in this particular performance, the male lead was subbed out after Act I, due to a flash case of Moffo throat which insiders believe was brought on by getting a bit of Falke’s ‘champagne’ up his nose during “Mein Herr, was daechten Sie von mir?”). The chorus were artfully positioned back-stage to emphasise the gaiety of the party.

#3 – The czardas. Rosalinde recalls ihre Heimat. Ah yes, I remember it well..
