Bühnenweihfestspielkrieg, part deux

Now that it has become obvious that the Robert Lepage Ring is the production of exactly no one’s dreams, La Cieca thought it would be fun, or at least comforting, to speculate a bit about exactly what an ideal Ring production should be. Following up on last year’s popular Bühnenweihfestspielkrieg competition, she issues you, the cher public, a challenge to be detailed after the jump.

You have your choice, cher public, of choosing an existing production of the Ring and explaining why you think it is ideal, or else, you can dream up your own imaginary production, pitch it, and try to convince us that your vision would produce a near-perfect Ring.

What La Cieca is looking for from you in the comments section below for you to articulate your ideas of what a production is supposed to do, and then give us evidence that your example (real or imaginaty) meets those criteria.

Naturally, the use of YouTube clips is encouraged, or, if you find still photos online of moments you want to illustrate, just include the URL of the photo in your comment and La Cieca will insert it in its proper place.

The competition will open immediately and will close at the end of the broadcast/HD performance of Götterdämmerung from the Met on the afternoon of Saturday, February 11. La Cieca’s decision as to the merits of the comments is final and (as you will guess) subject to whim. Impress me!

The author of the best comment will win the newly-remastered complete DVD set of the Ring in the classic Kupfer/Barenboim production.

A runner-up will receive “The Golden Ring,” the DVD documentary about the recording of the Solti Ring.
