Game changer

“Pathos and the high tone is not his thing,” helpfully explains Google Translate in reference to “Provokateur” Frank Castorf, who has been selected to direct the Ring at Bayreuth in 2013, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Richard Wagner’s birth. [Berliner Morgenpost]

Would Angela play Fafner??????She could wear her alligator shoes……………….

    • cosmodimontevergine says:

Angela Merkel as Fafner? Hmm -not a bad piece of casting. It will be interesting to see how Castorf does with a theater piece that is strictly limited in duration by the musical score. Some of his productions tended to go on too long!

OH…I forgot…just because i cannot spell Mrs.Alagna..I keep saying, “Angela,” but I better learn to spell it…because I do not want to insult our “new Angela.” MEADE!!!!!

And here one thought Hans Castorp had perished!

well for what it is worth there is a picture of Damrau and Villazon in der SZ today so I assume he is singing in Hoffmann. Tomorrow is the Generalprobe but one cannot get tickets anymore since Bachler only gives them out to students apparently. I have tickets for three performances so we shall see.

I do love Google (better than Nicholson Baker, m. croche).

Particularly fond of Sit still sees itself in Wagner’s operas but by itself, as can the Bayreuth audience so quickly that no fool.

I don’t know what the above picture depicts, but it is much more interesting visually to me than people dressed in brown and black outfits standing in front of a machine.

  • Camille says:

This picture and others from this production should be a regie quiz.

Is that JJ ‘gator wrestlin’ I see there??

By the way, the erudite denizens of Parterre Box do, of course, realise that the German word ‘Pathos’ does not have the same implications as the English word ‘pathos’. In German it is more a matter of high drama than of sentiment.
