“Opera star Renee Fleming came to Manhattan’s Grand Ballroom to record her vocals for Steven Spielberg’s new animated feature Tintin. Singing live with a 69 piece orchestra, Ms. Fleming was also filmed for motion caption.       I vaguely remember a low-budget French live-action Tintin from (?) the early 80′s (?). At any rate, the guy who played Tintin had quite a… shall we say formidable… influence on my young budding sexuality.

          Those movies were much older than I remember them. Also I discovered that Russell Tovey, whom I also adore, played Tintin on stage in London a few years ago. Clearly, I have some kind of Tintinophilia.

    Off topic, I owe JJ an apology. I hope our lovely doyenne will pass along my apologies. JJ sent me an Iphigenie En Tauride to review, and while I’ve listened to it, I haven’t had a moment free to write about it yet. I’m deep into rehearsals for Tales Of Hoffmann at Regina Opera, I’m ushering for Carmen at Amore, and I even managed to get to a performance of the wretched Mitridate at Little Opera in Manhattan. I promise that once Hoffmann is over in June, my review of the Gluck will be forthcoming. But in the meantime, Ya’ll come hear the Hoffmann. Even our Olympia cover is better than Kathleen Kim, and the rest of the casts are amazing.

    Remember when I was wishing I were singing again? Well, this is my third production in a row with no break, and now I’m planning my next recital. My higher power rocks!

      I also am profoundly delayed in reviewing an Elecktra CD set from JJ. I am swamped at work and planning a welcome part for my daughter and fiance this weekend (in from Cleveland) – painting porches, gardening, etc. have kept me well occupied. I will get to it soon.
